Pour a Little More

One of the fillies in Daytona Stable’s 2022 yearling class is Pour a Little More: She is a beautiful filly by Kantharos, out of the dam Queen Madison by Dialed In. Pour a Little More was selected by premier Bloodstock Agent Larry Zap.

Pour a Little More: 5/7/23 Tyrone Training Centre

June 2023 Update:

Pour a Little More is currently in Tom Drury’s barn at Tyrone Training Centre and is training well. While she is dropping some of the ‘baby fat’, she is still a ‘stout’ filly. Daytona Stable and partners are looking forward to her racing in the fall.

Pour a Little More: Harris Training Center 12/10/22

December 2022 Update:

Pour a Little More is currently in Florida learning the basics of being a race horse. She is currently on the training track jogging and galloping six days a week. Robbie (Harris) reports she is a quick learner, is happy and enjoys going to the track. Recently Bob and I paid a visit to HTC to check in on her progress. We were very pleased with how she looked and she is still living up to the moniker, ‘elegant bulldog’. Pour a Little More should start some speed work soon and at this time, the plan is for her to return to Kentucky in early 2023 with a goal of getting to the races in early summer.

Pour a Little More: Keeneland September Yearling Sale 9/21/21

Hip 2810 was purchased on Wednesday (9/21) at the 2022 Keeneland September yearling sale. Bob and I were preparing to head home from the sale that morning when we got a text from Larry about a Kantharos filly going through the ring early. When Larry texts you about a horse, you pay attention. Larry said he really loves this filly and thought she would be a great fit into our stable. Within 30 minutes, we arrived at Keeneland where Bob was able to see her walking in the back pre-sale ring. As Larry described, she had a strong yet fluid walk. In watching her pre-sale, her demeanor exuded calm and class. As she strode into the sale ring, Bob and I were prepared to go higher to take this elegant bulldog home. When the hammer went down, we were ecstatic to sign the ticket for her at $27k.

Here is her walk video from the sale:

Currently Pour a Little More is approximately 15 hands 1 inch tall and will be an average size filly when full grown. She is a first foal which statistically do well, even though they are frequently smaller than later offspring. Pour a Little More is nicely balanced, well muscled and has a strong walk. With her breeding and the ‘engine’ on her, we expect her to be a precocious filly and excel at the sprint distances. In addition her dam, Queen Madison, is a full sister to Ruffenuff, a stakes winner in Canada.

A top sire, Kantharos began his stud career in Florida and his progeny did so well, in 2016 he was moved to Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm in Kentucky. He has sired 5% stakes winners from foals including 3 that earned $3,097,513, $1,263,300 and $947,926. His stud fee is $20K and his 12 yearling fillies to sell this year have averaged $85K. To date, 10% of Kantharos filly starters, bred on a similar cross to Pour a Little More are stakes winners.

Pour a Little More’s sales page:

Like all horses purchased by Daytona Stable, we feel Pour a Little More is a value purchase. The initial partnership will partner Pour a Little More at the actual sale price of $27,000 ($2.7k for 10%), plus vetting costs, other purchase expenses including shipping to Florida. In addition, the partnership agreement will require partners to pay their share of operating expenses (primarily training and vet) quarterly in advance. The initial partnership cost will contain these expenses through the end of the year and the total estimated cost of 10% of Pour a Little More will be approximately $4000.

Pour a Little More is already in Ocala at Harris Training Center. She will start her training this fall and if things go well, she will be transferred to Tom Drury in Kentucky next spring and racing next summer in Kentucky.

Owning thoroughbred racehorses is highly speculative. The high standard deviation of performance results in many horses losing nearly all their value, while fewer number of horses are highly successful. However, Daytona Stable puts up our own money and is truly a partner. The only managing partner bonus would result if the partnership horse sells for a greater value than the initial purchase price.
