Original Information (Partnership Closed)
Hip 3425, a beautiful Jimmy Creed daughter, was purchased at the 2023 Keeneland September yearling sale for $45k after five days of searching. Dominque Engel (DVM) looked at every filly in the sale each day and her husband Michael Wilson then reduced her short list to top prospects for that day. Due to the superb physical athletes selected by Dominque and Michael, many of the horses significantly exceeded our ability to buy a filly for $50k or less. Daytona Stable looks for fillies that will qualify for the MSW Auction Condition races offered in Kentucky. These races are restricted to horses who have sold or RNA’s for $50K or less at their most recent auction. Our patience and price discipline paid off when Cuvee Creed hammered and Daytona Stable signed the ticket.
Here is her video from the sale:
Currently Cuvee Creed is approximately 15 hands 1 inch tall, and since she was a late foal (April 23rd) she will grow considerably. She will be average or slightly above average size when full grown, which we believe is the perfect size. Cuvee Creed has a superb physical. She is a ‘racy’ looking filly with a strong shoulder and hip, and has a long striding smooth walk. With her breeding, she could become a sprint or route horse.
A son of top sire Distorded Humor, Jimmy Creed is a G1 winner of four of ten races. He stands at Spendrift Farm and his stud fee is a bargain at $10K. His average earning index of 1.19, improving his mares that average 1.01. He has averaged 4% stakes winners and 1% graded stakes winners, impressive for a 10K stud fee. One of Jimmy Creed’s stakes winners, Majestic Creed, is bred on an identical cross as Cuvee Creed. Jimmy Creed was named a consensus value sire in 2021 and 2022 by Chris McGrath, and Bill Oppenheim in 2022. Here is Jimmy Creed’s Bloodhorse page:

Cuvee Creed’s sales page:
Admittedly, Cuvee Creed’s pedigree page is a little light, but Daytona Stable intentionally overemphasized the physical racing prospect in this purchase over a fancy catalogue page. Cuvee Creed was bred by her sales consigner Padraig Campion (Blanford Stud). Since Padraig still owns her dam, he was thrilled to know the filly was going to race in KY and Tom Drury was going to be her trainer. Regarding her catalogue page, her dam Leveragedthehilt was raced by Klaravich Stables and she won her first start at Aqueduct as a two-year old, but her racing career was cut short. Cuvee Creed has four siblings to win, including stakes placed filly Captured Prize (six time winner and G2 stakes placed in Puerto Rico). Her third dam produced Burnt Ember, a seven time winner of over $300k. Cuvee Creed’s pedigree is full of important sires and broodmare sires like Distorted Humor, Forty Nine, Citidancer, Majestic Warrier, AP Indy, and Regal Classic.
Checkout the video we took of her at the sale that better shows her beautiful walk and massive overstep:
Like all horses purchased by Daytona Stable, we feel Cuvee Creed is a value purchase. The initial partnership will partner Cuvee Creed at the actual sale price of $45,000 ($4500 for 10%), plus vetting costs, other purchase expenses including shipping to Florida. In addition, the partnership agreement will require partners to pay their share of operating expenses (primarily training and vet) quarterly in advance. The initial partnership cost will contain these expenses through the end of the year and the total estimated cost of 10% of Cuvee Creed will be approximately $6000.
Cuvee Creed is already in Ocala with Ellen Alvarez at a training center. Ellen and her husband, Pablo, have started her and if things go well, she will be transferred to Tom Drury in Kentucky next spring and racing next summer in Kentucky.
Owning thoroughbred racehorses is highly speculative. The high standard deviation of performance results in many horses losing nearly all their value, while fewer number of horses are highly successful. However, Daytona Stable puts up our own money and is truly a partner. The only managing partner bonus would result if the partnership horse sells for a greater value than the initial purchase price.
