Little Bit Angel
Candy Ride – Dragon Army
Daytona Stable is thrilled to have purchased Hip 2414, a striking daughter of Candy Ride, at the 2024 Keeneland September yearling sale for $49k. Bloodstock agents Dominque Engel (DVM) and her husband Michael Wilson loved this filly and had her on their short list. Due to her strong pedigree page and being by the outstanding sire, Candy Ride, we thought she would sell for six figures and would be out of our price range. Daytona Stable looks to buy the ‘diamond in the rough’ fillies that sell for $50k or less as this will qualify them for the MSW Auction Condition and 50k Starter Allowance races offered in Kentucky. These races are restricted to horses who have sold or RNA’d for $50k or less at their most recent auction and have the chance to run for substantial purses. Hip 2414 did not meet her reserve in the ring and Daytona Stable was able to buy her post sale for $49,000. To quote Michael, “You could not have bought a better filly”.
Here is her Pedigree Page from the sale:
Little Bit Angel is out of an unraced Giant’s Causeway mare, Dragon Army, who has had 4 foals of which 2 have won. Dragon Army’s 2 yr old gelding by Connect sold this past March at the OBS sale for $140k and has yet to make a start. Her second dam Ender’s Sister, by A.P. Indy, is a black type mare having won over half a million dollars in career earnings. In addition to being black type herself, she has produced black type winners including Grade 1 winner A.P. Indian who won over $1.4M, Tiz Shea D winner of $480k, and It’s All Relevant winner of $589k. The other exciting thing about her pedigree is that she is bred on the identical cross (Sire: Candy Ride, Dam: Giant’s Causeway mare) as the superstar racehorse and now stand out stallion, Gunrunner (earnings of $16M). You can see by her pedigree, there is a lot to be excited about, but we are equally excited about her physical. See video below.
Currently Little Bit Angel is approximately 15 hands 1 inch tall and since she is a late foal (April 5th), we expect her to be average or slightly above average size when full grown. We believe once she is fully grown, she will be the perfect size.
Little Bit Angel is by superstar sire Candy Ride who has a $75k stud fee. His offspring are 6% stakes winners, which is significantly higher than all but a few stallions nationwide. His yearling fillies averaged $124k auction sales price this year.

Like all fillies purchased by Daytona Stable, we feel Little Bit Angel is a value purchase. The initial partnership will partner Little Bit Angel at the actual sale price of $49,000 ($4,900 for 10%), plus vetting costs, other purchase expenses including shipping to Florida. In addition, the partnership agreement will require partners to pay their share of operating expenses (primarily training and vet) quarterly in advance. The initial partnership cost will contain these expenses through the end of the year and the total estimated cost of 10% of Little Bit Angel will be approximately $6,600.
Little Bit Angel is already in Ocala with Ellen Alvarez at a training center. Ellen and her husband, Pablo, have her for initial training and if things go well, Little Bit Angel will be transferred to Tom Drury in Kentucky next spring and racing next summer in Kentucky.
Owning thoroughbred racehorses is highly speculative. The high standard deviation of performance results in many horses losing nearly all their value, while fewer number of horses are highly successful. However, Daytona Stable puts up our own money and is truly a partner. The only managing partner bonus would result if the partnership horse sells for a greater value than the initial purchase price.
